INVOLVEMENT AND GIVING
Active involvement by parents is strongly encouraged, and an essential part of building and sustaining a close-knit community. There are numerous opportunities for parents to engage with the school throughout the year.
Community Events
From Back-to-School night to the End-of-Year Ceremony, Wellan offers a wide range of events and activities designed to keep parents informed, educated, and engaged. Prior to the start of each school year, classrooms gather for informal play dates. Community dinners and classroom coffees are planned each fall, as well as a new parent reception. The Fall Festival brings our entire school community together for a day of fun, as do other social events. Parent Education events are wonderful opportunities for parents to engage with faculty, staff, and outside professionals around a variety of child development topics. The Head of School also offers more intimate “fireside chats” for small groups of parents to discuss various school-related topics.
Volunteer Opportunities
Part of what makes our community so wonderful is parent engagement—we have an incredibly active Parent Association. Look at the slides above and you’ll see service days, community building events, and moments that enrich the lives of students and staff. Parents are encouraged to volunteer at school events, admissions open houses, and in their children’s classrooms as appropriate. Information is sent out via email and through the Parent Association.
Giving Opportunities
Tuition dollars alone do not cover the cost of an independent school education. Fundraising ensures that we can provide the very best environment, materials, experiences and expertise to help our students and families learn and grow. We raise money for Wellan through two major avenues: the Annual Fund and a special event in the spring. Contributions to Wellan help to support all aspects of the school, from teaching materials, enrichment programs, and professional development to building improvements and maintenance. These funds also help to ensure that the school is financially secure as we look towards the future. All gifts are fully tax-deductible.
Spring Social Event
Each year we host a fun “Spring Social” for our adult community. Past venues have included the New England Aquarium and Brae Burn Country Club. At our most recent event, Glitz!, parents, staff, and friends of the school joined together for an evening of casino games and raised money to fund a major Arts Wing renovation.
